Payday Perks - November 2011

So being the complete consumerist that I am, and because I work ever so hard every single payday I treat myself to a few things I’ve had my eye on. Everyone deserves a treat right?

Not that I need anymore cameras to add to my already over crowded collection, but I finally caved and got myself a Diana Mini. The mini is literally a mini version of it’s larger (medium format) sister the Diana F+ (which in itself is a remake of the Diana camera from the 60’s) - the mini takes 35mm film in both square format or rectangular and is so adorably tiny, it’s cute size makes it the perfect camera for me to take everywhere with me and that’s what I intend to do.

Every boy needs a pair of collar tips for those times when he needs to turn a plain white shirt into something a bit more special - and now I have a pair of my very own (though I do feel it might end up turning into a collection) I managed to get these on ebay for quite a good price, so I’m rather happy.

I am a little bit of a lip balm addict if I’m completely honest so it’s no surprise that upon happening upon Hurraw! Balm I had to try it. These natural, organic, vegan lip balms are incredibly creamy and soft. I ordered the night treatment balm which is lovely and creamy with a scent that literally makes you want to fall fast asleep, and the green tea balm which is quite sweet and moisturising. I’ve already got my eye on the almond and licorice if I’m honest.

These cute little pots from seller babosarang are absolutely adorable, they come with cotton wool and a vial of seeds for you to plant in the pot these then grow into a little mini herb garden. So twee! I ordered two of the small size and one large and they’ll look so cute on our shelves, the great thing about these as well is that once you are done using whatever you manage to grow you can reuse the pots for something else!

Taylor of Old Bond Street are a brand that specialises in shaving products and supplies all with an old time feel. I’d just run out of my Portland General Store shaving soap so figured now would be a good time to try something else. Taylor of Old Bond Street have a whole host of scents and though I heard Sandalwood was one of the best, and was also quite tempted by Rose in the end I decided to go for Almond - because its winter and also because I know it’s a scent I wouldn’t dislike. It smells absolutely beautiful and the tub is a lot bigger than I was expecting, I’ve yet to use it but I’ll be sure to post when I do.

Murdock London - Hair Doh

Murock London was originally established in 2006, however the look of the brand itself almost dates it to a good few decades before. A barber shop upon first opening offering various male grooming treatments as well as grooming products each with their own timeless spin.

I’ve been using their ‘Hair Doh’ shaping paste to style my quiff lately and it’s been holding up pretty good. It’s got a good strong hold without the weight of some other products I’ve tried, it also gives good separation so is pretty good when wearing my hair messy as well. The best part about it however, it smells like bananas!

Portland General Store Wood Body Creme

As we all know I am a complete sucker for woody scents and Portland General Stores Wood Body Creme does not disappoint. Thankfully however it is not scent over substance as this is also an incredibly thick luxurious body cream (or Creme as the name suggests.) Containing incredibly softening coconut oil, this lotion absorbs quickly but still does the job on dry skin. It works wonders as a hand cream, and I’ve been keeping a small pot in my bag for just this purpose! As for the scent itself it is a subtle mixture of patchouli and cedar with a subtle hint of vanilla to soften the smell. It is not an overpowering scent making it the perfect body cream for those that like to be smelled up close, sexy!

Portland General Store Whiskey Aftershave Splash

Recently I have been trying a few products from a brand that has interested me in a while, Portland General Store. Portland General Store are a brand first founded by an interested in sustainable living - which culminated in happening open a vintage soap and perfume recipe book. This lead to the main inspiration for this brand, using basic ingredients to create beautiful and timeless blends.

Their Whiskey After-Shave Splash has actually become a staple for me since trying a small sample from their online store. Not only are the ingredients themselves gorgeous, it contains sea kelp, aloe vera and tea tree without any harsh alcohol but the scent itself quite enchanting and completely the definition of the word timeless. The smell itself is a subtle but sweet whisky scent that conjures up memories of old buildings near the beach, and the product really seems to give my skin that moisture drink it needs after shaving leaving it soft and quite smooth.

I’ll be buying another bottle of this!
